SFR Picks Grottesco
Winter One Acts

by Tristan Katz for the Santa Fe Reporter, January 25-31, 2006

The Stage daredevils of Theater Grottesco
presents Winter One Acts,two original
plays created by local artists, launching the theater company's first-ever double
season. Swimming in the Gasses of Jupiter tells the story of a mythological
character who struggles to survive in the modern world. Written by theater
Professional Anna Bogaard and Theater Grottesco's longtime director
Elizabeth Wiseman, the story unfolds with images of past, present and future
simultaneously represented through a dreamlike manipulation of time.

Motherland, also written by Wiseman in collaboration with dance and theater
artist Barbara Z, explores the tribulations of a primitive culture Struggling to
survive in the future. The action of Motherland takes place in the lava fields
of an active volcano, a rather Grottescoesque location. As all Grottesco
productions do, Winter One Acts promises to deliver a vision (locally crafted)
of what theater on the edge can be.
